Global developer GLP has initiated the construction of a new logistics park in Villaverde, Madrid, Spain, with a ground-breaking ceremony.

Named OAXIS GLP Park Madrid Villaverde, the park will occupy around 170,000m² of area and is said to become the first in Spain built to facilitate distribution via electric vehicles.

Building 1 of the logistics park will offer a leasable area of 26,368m² and feature a clear height of 11.7m.

It is designed to be flexible, with the capability to be divided into three modules, measuring 9,125m², 10,432m², and 6,721m².

It will also have access to the range of amenities provided within the park aimed at promoting the well-being of workers and visitors.

These include running tracks, tennis courts, bike lanes, pedestrian paths, an outdoor leisure area, and ample green spaces.

Building 1 is being constructed with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions and is designed to meet the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) Excellent certification standards.

The completion of Building 1 is expected in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.

The park will be situated 9km from Puerta del Sol and a few kilometres from central Madrid in Villaverde.

GLP Spain director Óscar Heras said: “We are pleased to announce the start of construction of OAXIS GLP Park Madrid Villaverde. This is an exciting step forward in our commitment to enhancing logistics infrastructure in Spain. We are looking forward to building on our past success and welcoming new customers to the park.”

GLP has engaged CBRE as the exclusive agent for the project while GSE has been appointed as the contractor for the construction of the first building.

In February this year, GLP commenced earthworks at its Landriano site, in the Italian province of Pavia, and laid the first pillar of its Grade A warehouse facility.
