Glencar has been selected as the main contractor for Trehus, a sustainable timber-framed office building in Maidenhead, Thames Valley, England.

The 79,200ft² commercial development structure aims for net-zero carbon emissions and seeks to achieve both Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology Outstanding and WELL Platinum certifications.

Developed by HUB, a progressive developer, and investor partner Smedvig, Trehus received unanimous approval from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead local council for its futureproof design.

The project stands as Phase 2 of the One Maidenhead master plan, located centrally opposite the town’s train station.

The construction of Trehus involves a mass timber superstructure with a BauBuche laminated veneer lumber timber frame and cross-laminated timber floor decks, demanding expert sequencing and logistics.

The building will feature a facade with a real stone exterior on a steel framing system (SFS) backing frame and timber/aluminium composite windows for thermal efficiency.

The mixed-use development will offer 6,700m² of commercial office space, including ground-floor retail units, a fifth-floor external terrace, and a Cat A office fit-out.

The construction team is scheduled to commence on-site work in April 2025, with the development anticipated for completion in late 2026.

Glencar operations director Ben Fletcher said: “We are delighted to be appointed as the main contractor for this landmark project at One Maidenhead. This appointment reinforces Glencar’s growing presence in the commercial sector, demonstrating our ability to deliver complex, high-quality and high-performance office developments with sustainability at their core.

“Trehus is a truly forward-thinking scheme that will set a new benchmark for environmentally responsible office space in the Thames Valley.”

HUB development head Victoria Manston said: “We are excited to work with Glencar to make our vision for Trehus a reality. We’ve seen the success of One Maidenhead Phase 1, which delivered over 400 new homes, six commercial units and new public realm, and look forward to bringing forward this unique, landmark office building to complete the master plan and further support the local economy.”

In August 2024, commercial property developer Stoford selected Glencar to construct a new 62,413ft² industrial warehouse at the Worcester Six business park development, located at Junction 6 of the M5 motorway in the UK.
