Architect Populous has announced the opening of the $65m Florida Ballpark at Alfred A McKethan Field in Gainesville, Florida, the US, for the 2021 season.
The new ballpark, which replaces the McKethan Stadium that opened in 1949, is located on the southwest part of the University of Florida campus.
Populous designed the ballpark for maximum fan comfort, providing various seating types and viewing areas. Fans can get 360° access around the venue without losing sight of the field.
In addition, Florida Ballpark features a tiered seating bowl and has the capacity to accommodate 7,000 fans across 3,400 lower bowl chair backs and 800 club seats, as well as two grass berms with capacity for 2,800 people.
Located down the left and right field lines, the berms wrap around both outfield foul poles.
Furthermore, the ballpark has separate meeting and video rooms.

By GlobalDataFlorida Ballpark is situated in a way that increases shading throughout the seating bowl. The concourse has ceiling fans throughout that protect guests and staff from the sun.
The view level has an open club space and includes two suites and a party deck. From these seats, fans can view the football stadium in the distance.
Populous senior architect and associate principal Jason Ford said: “The ballpark’s focus is on the student-athlete, providing state-of-the-art amenities to train and perform at the highest level.”
Social areas created by Populous in and around the outfield give additional seating options to fans in the Dizney Grove.
Florida Ballpark serves as the year-round home to Florida baseball and has been designed for the student-athlete.
The ballpark’s training areas feature four indoor hitting cages, two indoor pitching tunnels, a full-size artificial turf infield, hydrotherapy and athletic training spaces.
