Envision AESC, a Japanese electric vehicle battery technology company, will construct a facility in Kentucky, US, with an investment of $2bn.

This facility at Bowling Green in south-central Kentucky will manufacture battery cells and modules for electric vehicles, reported Associated Press.

Once operational, the approximately 3 million-square-foot factory at the Kentucky Transpark in Bowling Green will create 2,000 jobs.

The factory will manufacture products for multiple auto manufacturers.

Envision AESC Group CEO Shoichi Matsumoto was quoted by the news agency as saying, “This major investment builds on our commitment to the U.S. market, supports growth of the electrification supply chain and secures high value jobs for future generations in the region.

“This commitment takes us one step further toward our ambition to make high-performance, longer-range batteries for a diverse range of automotive manufacturers worldwide to support the EV transition.”

The plans for the Kentucky plant come after the company made announcements in 2021 on constructing gigafactories in France and the UK.

Envision AESC has 4,000 employees and ten production plants in Japan, the US, the UK, China and France.

The state is providing up to $116.8m from state incentive programmes and up to $5m in grant-in-aid for skills training.
