Eiffage Construction has announced the completion of the conversion of the former Courrier Picard headquarters in Amiens, France, into a residential project named ‘Recto Verso’.
This project, which began in January 2022, involved both the rehabilitation of historical elements and the construction of new residential buildings.
The project presented significant technical and logistical challenges, particularly due to the need to preserve the building’s art deco facades and a 17th-century wooden framework.
The rehabilitation process included the entire renovation of the supporting structure of two 20th-century buildings, with the installation of new steel and concrete floors.
The proximity of surrounding buildings required the construction teams to perform complex bracing work to maintain the stability of the preserved facades during the construction phase.
The addition of two new residential buildings to the construction programme resulted in modern living spaces.
The new housing units were completed in September 2024, and the restoration of the historic buildings was finished by March 2025.
Eiffage Energies Systèmes was responsible for the on-site electrical works.
Eiffage Group, a European construction and concessions company, operates across eight business lines, organised into four divisions, and employs a workforce of 84,400.
The group’s eight business lines comprise Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Immobilier, Eiffage Aménagement, Eiffage Route, Eiffage Génie Civil, Eiffage Métal, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, and Eiffage Concessions.
The clients for this project were SCCV Amiens Courrier Picard and SIGLA NEUF, both engaged in the real-estate sector.
The project team included ESQUISSE ARCHITECTURE as the architect, SOCOTEC as the inspection office, ETIC/ARCHE as the structural engineering consultant, and Sébastien DELAPIERRE as the internal method engineering consultant.
This February, Eiffage Génie Civil, along with its division Ævia, revealed it was aiding Bordeaux Métropole in the construction of the new ‘François Mitterrand’ footbridge in France, which will improve connectivity between Bègles and Bouliac.
