The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has signed an agreement with Swiss company MEDLOG for the funding, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a new domestic dry port and logistics centre in the 10th of Ramadan City.

The 10th of Ramadan industrial city, established in the 1970s, is strategically located in the eastern Sharqiya governorate, connecting to major highways.

MEDLOG, the logistics division of shipping company MSC, won the global tender issued by the Public Authority for Land and Dry Ports, surpassing four global consortiums, reported Daily News Egypt.

The contract was signed by Public Authority for Land and Dry Ports head Sayed Metwally and MEDLOG CEO Domenico Zanon.

Egypt has built 22 dry ports and logistic zones across the country, including in the 10th of Ramadan City.

Its goal is to complete 33 dry ports and seven logistical corridors, enhancing the country’s capacity for transport, logistics, and transit trade.

Additional dry ports are being constructed in other industrial cities such as Sadat, New Damietta, New Fayoum, and Beni Suef.

Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, who attended the signing ceremony, emphasised the importance of connecting industrial zones with seaports on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean through integrated logistics corridors.

The ministry stated that the new dry ports will support new urban communities via a network of railways, including diesel and fast electric trains, and major roads.

The 10th of Ramadan dry port and logistics zone includes 250 acres, covering 130 acres for the port and 120 acres for the logistics area. It is a crucial part of the Sokhna/Alexandria international logistics corridor.

This new project is set to enhance connectivity between Sokhna port on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean ports of Port Said, Damietta, and Alexandria through road networks and the upcoming Robiki/10th of Ramadan/Belbeis rail systems railway line.
