Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the Al Fay Street Development Project, designed to enhance the city’s road infrastructure in anticipation of its urban and population expansion.
The project, valued at Dh1.5bn ($408m), will extend from the development’s intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and continue to Emirates Road.
The development includes the construction of five key intersections, with 13,500m of bridges and 12,900m of roads. Once completed, Al Fay Street’s capacity will increase to accommodate 64,400 vehicles per hour, serving an estimated 600,000 residents and visitors.
RTA director general and executive director board chair Mattar Al Tayer said: “Al Fay Street Development Project is a pivotal infrastructure initiative within Dubai’s road network. It establishes a new strategic corridor among the emirate’s main roads, significantly enhancing east-west connectivity. Al Fay Street acts as an extension of Al Khail Roads, stretching from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.
“The project will serve a variety of residential and developmental areas, including Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, DAMAC Lagoons, The Oasis, and Remraam.”
The project is divided into two phases, with the first phase involving the construction of a two-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
