The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of two domestic roads of a total of 3.95km in Bulan, Sorsogon.

These two road projects have been finished as part of the larger tourism road initiative known as the Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road.

The DPWH’s Sorsongon 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) was responsible for the implementation of the two road sections.

The first, spanning 1.8km, and the second, measuring 2.15km, connect Barangay Butag to Barangay Utayi, passing through agricultural lands and coastal areas.

Both roads feature two lanes, hard shoulders, street lighting, and thermoplastic pavement markings, as well as safety components such as warning signs, metal guardrails, and more.

Upon completion, the Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road is set to serve as a faster alternative route for tourists visiting the province’s various eco-tourism and beach destinations.

In addition, the DPWH has upgraded and reconstructed a damaged section along the Pagadian-Zamboanga City Road in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.

Region 9 director Cayamombao D Dia reported that the project included the repair of a 3.8km stretch of the two middle lanes of the existing four-lane road at Barangay Camanga.

The project features a 3.35m carriageway, intermittent retaining walls, and solar yellow studs with thermoplastic pavement markings to enhance nighttime visibility.

The DPWH Zamboanga del Sur 1st DEO managed the 50m pesos ($856,406) road rehabilitation project.

D Dia said: “This project aims to enhance road safety and facilitate smoother travel for residents and commuters, benefitting about 40,000 locals in the area.”

Last month, the DPWH completed the construction of a two-lane domestic road in Asipulo, Ifugao Province.
