Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has commenced expansion plan, “DFW Forward”, valued at nearly $9bn.
The initiative aims to revamp terminals, enhance facilities, increase gate numbers, and upgrade connectivity and infrastructure.
The transformation of Terminal C, DFW’s busiest terminal, is a central element of the plan.
Out of the nearly $9bn, approximately $3bn is allocated to reconstruct and expand the Terminal C, which will see the removal of more than 400 columns, installation of new dynamic glass windows, and a raised roof to create a more open atmosphere.
The modernisation will also introduce new retail and dining options, lounges, check-in areas, security checkpoints, and improved restrooms.
Concurrent with Terminal C’s first phase, expansions of Terminals C and A will add significant space and gates, enhancing capacity and customer amenities.

By GlobalDataThe joint venture of Austin Commercial, Azteca Enterprises, and Alpha & Omega, alongside design team members HOK and Muller & Muller, are leading the design-build efforts for the first phase of Terminal C and the Terminal A expansion.
Terminal C will gain an additional 115,000ft² and four gates, while Terminal A will expand by 140,000ft² and five gates. These expansions will also offer new restaurants, retail spaces, seating, and restrooms.
The expansion project, which is planned in phases, is scheduled for completion in 2030.
Concurrently, the adjacent south parking garage will be reconstructed to support the terminal’s growth, and feature parking management technologies.
The garage’s entrance will close on 14 September 2024, to prepare for demolition, with other parking facilities remaining open.
DFW CEO Sean Donohue said: “The incredible upgrades and expansions we have planned across the airport are going to reimagine the customer experience in many ways and provide the needed framework to support more historic growth in air travel to and from North Texas.
“As we grow closer to serving 100 million passengers each year, it’s time for DFW to enhance our remaining legacy terminal and imagine brand new ones. The work in front of us is exciting, but it is going to be complex, challenging and impactful as we continue to operate one of the world’s busiest airports.”
