Construction and engineering company Conti Federal Services has completed the renovation of Maintenance Hangar Building #1643 at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NASJRB) Fort Worth, Texas, US.
This project marks a milestone for the 301st Fighter Wing, as it transitions from the F16 Fighter Falcon to the F35A Lightning II model.
The renovation, awarded by the US Air Force, was executed through a phased approach to accommodate ongoing operations at the base.
Building #1643 has been transformed into a modern facility that supports the long-term operational requirements of NASJRB Fort Worth, with enhanced functionality and safety features for maintenance operations.
Conti Federal project executive Christopher Conerly said: “Conti Federal diligently executed the Maintenance Hangar Building #1643 renovation, marking a significant milestone for our company and the 301st Fighter Wing.
“This renovation not only enhances the efficiency and safety of the hangar but also reinforces NASJRB Fort Worth’s ability to support the next generation of aircraft. Our team is honoured to continue our commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure for the United States Air Force.”
The project work included the construction of various specialised rooms such as a communications room, utility room, egress shop, break room, and a fire suppression room.
The project team adhered to strict ICD-705 requirements, which govern the construction and renovation of secure facilities.
Conti Federal’s team undertook demolition and construction activities, including electrical upgrades, partition wall removal, and the replacement of floor and wall tiles, exterior doors, and overhead coiling doors.
Plumbing fixtures were also replaced, and new water and vent piping were installed alongside waste piping systems.
In an effort to minimise waste, the project team salvaged and reinstalled existing equipment such as a fan coil unit and floor-mounted unit.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (AC) work was carried out to ensure environmental control within the hangar, including the relocation and installation of ductwork, mini-split AC units, and an air intake damper.
Exterior improvements involved pavement removal for a new sanitary utility trench, the installation of a 6in polyvinyl chloride sanitary sewer, and the boring of new communications and electrical lines.
The renovation is one of three projects Conti Federal is executing at NASJRB Fort Worth, including the construction of an F-35A Flight Simulator Facility and Squadron Operations/Aircraft Maintenance Facility, as well as the renovation of a loading dock under the CF2 Construction mentor-protege partnership with Cherokee Nation Environmental Services.
In June 2024, Conti Federal Services secured a contract for the construction of the B-21 Phase Maintenance Hangar at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota, US.
