Construction services provider RNGD has announced the start of construction on the 1.5-acre mixed-use community, the Lewter District, in Huntsville, Alabama, US.

The $50m development is a tribute to the legacy of the Lewter Hardware Company, a family business that closed in 2022.

Emergent Properties and RNGD are leading the project, which includes the renovation of the historic hardware store’s structure and the addition of new buildings.

The development of the Lewter District will occur in three phases, starting with the construction of the Lewter District Townhomes. These 14 luxury residences, designed by Sanders Pace Architecture, are scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

Emergent Properties and RNGD are collaborating on the project, with the latter also planning to establish a local office within the district as part of its expansion in the Southeast US.

The second phase, which began in October 2024, involves the refurbishment of the Lewter Hardware Company building.
