The New South Wales (NSW) state government and the federal government of Australia have commenced construction on the Eurobodalla Emergency Services Precinct at Moruya, to bolster the safety of the state’s South Coast community.
The A$25m ($15.5m) project is a response to the bushfires that have affected the area, including the 2019-20 Black Summer fires and the 2023 Coolagolite fires.
This precinct is designed to enhance local emergency services by housing multiple agencies under one roof, thereby improving coordination and response times during crises.
This initiative follows a recommendation from the NSW Bushfire Inquiry, which advocated for such a facility to foster cross-agency collaboration and better prepare local communities for future fire seasons and natural disasters.
Set to accommodate the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), NSW State Emergency Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, and Marine Rescue NSW, the precinct is expected to deliver a unified response to emergencies.
The facility is part of a larger NSW Government strategy to strengthen regional resilience and safeguard lives, homes, and infrastructure.

By GlobalDataThe precinct will host up to 70 RFS personnel, including those from Area Command, Planning and Environmental Services, and Mitigation Crews.
Additionally, the Moruya RFS Brigade station will be relocated to the new site. The project’s funding includes A$20m from the NSW Government for RFS infrastructure and A$5m from the national government.
Upon completion, the new Eurobodalla Emergency Services Precinct will replace the current Moruya Fire Control Centre, which will continue to operate until the new facility’s anticipated opening in 2027.
NSW Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib said: “This is a landmark investment by the NSW and Australian Governments in frontline emergency management capabilities, especially in an area that has been so heavily impacted by bushfires in recent years.
“It is an important milestone for the region and confirms this government’s commitment to disaster resilience and community safety.
“This precinct will strengthen our ability to respond to these emergencies, ensuring that communities across Eurobodalla and the Bega Valley have the resources and coordinated support they need to face future challenges.”
In June last year, the NSW Government commenced the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 construction.
