Construction work has begun on the Chandler Park Fieldhouse, a new sports dome facility in Detroit, Michigan, US.
The $14m project has been funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
A ground-breaking event was attended by Detroit’s mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit City Council member Latisha Johnson, community partners, and city residents.
Spanning 130,000ft², the sports dome will be situated within the 200-acre Chandler Park, which is said to be the city’s fourth largest park.
The project aims to bridge the gap in local recreation centres within the city, providing Detroit’s eastern residents with year-round sports, fitness, and recreational activities.
Johnson said: “The Chandler Park Fieldhouse will be a tremendous asset to Detroit’s athletic/sports community and is a welcomed addition to District 4.
