The new four-storey Carla Madison 67,000ft² community recreation centre has been opened in Denver, Colorado, US.
The facility was inaugurated by city Mayor Michael B Hancock and Denver Parks & Recreation executive director Happy Haynes with community members, city officials, employees and guests present.
Hancock said: “This new recreation centre represents what makes Denver great, health and wellness, new opportunities, community, and innovation.
“Our rec centres bring our neighbourhoods and residents together, and I’m certain that Carla Madison Rec will become a new central gathering place for central Denver residents to enjoy.”
The centre will be located at the corner of E Colfax Avenue and Josephine Street. It will provide recreational opportunities to an estimated 35,000 visitors every month.
Construction of the recreation facility followed the support of Denver Better Bond Program by Denver voters for enhanced facilities in 2007, which led to the acquisition of land in central Denver.

In the future, it will also include an outdoor climbing wall, a quarter-acre dog park, table tennis, slackline area, bicycle parking and hire, and event space along with 130 parking spaces.
