Canvas, a 3D measurement and modelling solutions provider, has raised $10m in a Series A funding round to simplify architectural-grade 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modelling (BIM) models for construction and design professionals.

The funding round was led by early-stage venture capital company Trilogy Equity Partners and Foundry Group.

Other investors in the round included Acquired Wisdom Fund, GC&H Investments, and Frontier VC.

This funding will accelerate the company’s development of AI-powered solutions that convert mobile 3D scans into precise, design-ready models for construction and remodelling workflows.

With over 15 years of experience and more than 20 patents in 3D sensing and computer vision, Canvas’ technology is currently assisting approximately 12,000 design and construction professionals.

The solutions offered by Canvas allow for the quick capture of interior spaces using an iPhone or iPad, providing an instant 3D digital twin.

Subsequently, Canvas processes the scan into the CAD/BIM format preferred by the customer, reducing errors and the need for manual modelling.

The investment will enable Canvas to expand its team, hiring researchers and engineers to advance its AI-driven spatial data processing technology.

Additionally, the company plans to scale its go-to-market team to introduce its ‘groundbreaking’ solutions to a worldwide clientele.

Canvas CEO Sarah Bird said: “Canvas is solving a critical challenge in the design and construction industry: turning raw 3D scans into reliable, construction-grade models quickly and affordably.

“Our technology makes this process simple and accessible, enabling professionals to focus on what they do best. This investment is a powerful endorsement of our ambitious mission to create a digital twin of every interior, transform it into structured data and power the full life cycle of each property.”

Trilogy Equity Partners investment managing director Yuval Neeman said: “We’re at a pivotal moment in 3D modelling, driven by AI and the growing accessibility of LiDAR [light detection and ranging] in mobile devices. Canvas is uniquely positioned to deliver an end-to-end solution that turns the real world into structured data for digital workflows.

“Canvas is starting with the massive residential and light commercial markets, providing affordable solutions for professionals at all levels. The potential for future applications is enormous.”
