The detailed design renders of the new A$451.1m ($297.42m) Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment in Western Australia (WA) have been unveiled. 

The project aims to transform what is said to be the region’s largest country hospital.

Scheduled to begin main works in early 2025, the hospital will include additional medical and intensive-care beds, an expanded emergency department, and increased operating theatre capacity.  

Upon completion, the redevelopment will also introduce new and expanded maternity, birthing, and neonatal services.  

A new mental health observation area and expanding inpatient facilities, as well as new clinical equipment, sterilisation, and support facilities will also be constructed.

WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said: “With an investment of A$451.1m, this is by far the biggest redevelopment of a country hospital ever undertaken in Western Australia.” 

Bunbury legislative assembly member Don Punch added: “The new training, education and research centre will help us attract and retain the best and brightest clinicians to regional WA, driving innovation in healthcare with a focus on rural and remote communities.
