Buckingham Group Contracting has been selected by Coventry and Warwickshire Development Partnership (CWDP), a key client of SEGRO, for the second phase of Coventry Gateway scheme in the UK.

The first and the second phase of the contract are valued at nearly £140m and include the construction on a 450-acre site next to Coventry Airport, providing 3.7 million ft² of large B2/B8 warehousing that is planned for the site.

Buckingham Group has already been the contractor for the Whitley South infrastructure, which includes a new road bridge over the A45 dual carriageway.

Work at Gateway South, Coventry has begun last month and is expected to be delivered over the next three years.

The project includes industrial and logistics uses, on a mix of agricultural land, two existing licensed waste tips, an existing HGV yard and a former sewage treatment works.

SEGRO business unit director Andrew Pilsworth said: “Gateway South, Coventry is truly an excellent location. It’s well-connected, close to major population centres and it’s one of a small number of sites that can accommodate our long-term vision of creating a high-quality industrial and logistics park.

Under the second phase, Buckingham Group will construct an adoptable access road with nearly 35,000m² of space, 6,000,000m³ of earthworks including excavation, treatment, segregation and re-placement along with demolition, remediation and reclamation.

The company will also build screening bunds, site spine road, access road to a rugby club, an emergency access road, storm drainage system and associated attenuation and outfalls, foul drainage system, boundary treatments and accommodation works and providing new ecological habitats and new 230-acre country park.

Buckingham Group Contracting civil engineering group director Ian McSeveney said: “We are delighted to have secured this exciting and challenging project.
