Bird Construction has received five contracts across Canada, together valued at approximately C$470m ($326.6m).

These projects encompass a range of sectors, including nuclear support buildings, civil infrastructure, industrial maintenance, and recreation centre redevelopment.

Bird has entered its first integrated project delivery (IPD) contract in Atlantic Canada as part of a joint venture (JV).

The IPD team, via a shared-risk model, will construct a 100,000ft² office and maintenance depot, which will be valued at about C$70m.

The facility, targeting net-zero status, will be equipped with a 260KW solar array, potentially expandable to 600KW.

In collaboration via the Makhos Bird JV, Bird will undertake the design and construction of two new buildings for Ontario Power Generation, with a combined value of roughly C$120m.

Meanwhile, Bird’s subsidiary, Jacob Bros Construction, has received a C$55m order from the Government of British Columbia (BC).

This Highway 1 Bus-On-Shoulder Lanes project aims to improve rapid transit services by widening a stretch of the highway and adding new infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists, and ecological restoration.

The company’s industrial maintenance, repair, and operations team has obtained two contracts worth approximately C$100m.

Finally, Bird has concluded the validation stage for an IPD contract that will redevelop a recreational centre in Kelowna, BC.

This initiative, which is part of the Building a Stronger Kelowna programme, will triple the facility’s programme offerings and include dedicated childcare space. Bird’s share in this project is estimated at C$125m.

Bird president and CEO Teri McKibbon said: “Bird continues to win work across our industrial, buildings and infrastructure businesses in key strategic market sectors that remain economically resilient, building on the company’s strong client relationships and forging new ones.

“These awards highlight the scope of Bird’s capabilities, adding to the company’s combined backlog of nuclear, healthcare, horizontal infrastructure and industrial maintenance work, while expanding Bird’s expertise in collaborative contracts.”

In August 2024, Bird secured five projects across Canada, with a total value exceeding C$575m.
