BAM has announced the start of construction on the transformative redevelopment of the Yeovil College campus, with an investment exceeding £60m ($77.6m) funded by the UK’s Department for Education (DfE).
This marks a significant advancement in higher education for Somerset and North and West Dorset in England.
The investment in the Yeovil College campus transformation will introduce advanced facilities, including a new sports centre, a technical construction centre, and a modern teaching centre.
These additions aim to provide dynamic educational experiences and support local talent and innovation, ultimately boosting employment prospects in the region.
The redevelopment will result in a net increase in campus space, with 12,500m² of new construction replacing 8,800m² of demolished buildings, expanding the total area from 18,000m² to 21,700m².
The additional space will cater to the growing needs of the college, which has seen its annual turnover increase from £9m to £21m.

Yeovil College CEO and head Mark Bolton said: “The investment and campus transition that will now begin and conclude over the next three years is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and can be transformational for our town.”
BAM regional director Tim Chell said: “We’re proud to support Yeovil College and the Department for Education on this transformative project, which will benefit both current and future learners.
“Over the next four years, we’ll generate more than £15m in local social economic value by creating local jobs, apprenticeships, and providing supported learning experiences for students, all while working closely with local businesses and the wider community. We will maximise the positive impact of this project, helping to drive growth and prosperity in Yeovil and beyond.”
