International infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has won a contract to deliver £33m Health and Life Sciences building for the University of Reading, UK.
The group is responsible for constructing a new 7,500m² training and research facility as an integral part of the university’s ten-year campus regeneration programme.
The contact has been granted through the university’s £250m building framework.
Construction work will commence this month. During the peak construction period, Balfour Beatty will employ more than 150 workers.
The company plans to make the process more efficient throughout the project by generating and managing vital information about the facility through Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Balfour Beatty’s South England regional business managing director Jonathan Winter said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to construct the new Health and Life Sciences building, which is another example of the significant benefits a collaborative relationship can deliver.
“Our longstanding relationship with the University of Reading, coupled with our extensive experience in delivering higher education projects, supports our mutual goal of providing a first-class facility and improved learning experience for more than 17,000 students.”
Since 2015 Balfour Beatty has been working with the university on the building framework. The company was also chosen as the main contractor to build the £287m Engineering Campus Development for the University of Manchester last November.
The firm is also constructing £197m East Slope accommodation blocks for the University of Sussex.
