Balfour Beatty’s Civils West and California Buildings operations has been chosen as a prequalified contractor for Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Multiple Award Task Order Contracts (MATOC).
This positions the company to undertake a range of projects, valued from $1m to more than $250m, focusing on infrastructure and facilities modernisation at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The company is among the 13 first-time prime contractors, within a pool of 31 companies, selected by LAWA to streamline procurement processes and accelerate design-build and construction (DB&C) services at the airport.
Balfour Beatty US president and chief executive officer Eric Stenman said: “Being selected for LAWA’s MATOC allows us to continue our valued partnership with LAWA as well as support our strategic efforts in diversifying our aviation project portfolio.”
“Our extensive expertise in delivering aviation infrastructure and facilities, combined with our deep familiarity with LAX projects through our ongoing work on the LAX automated people mover, gives us invaluable insights into how LAWA expects their projects to be delivered with passenger experience as the priority.
“We’re excited to leverage our integrated team of experts from both our Civils and Buildings businesses — a winning combination that brings together specialised expertise and operational excellence to support LAWA’s vision for the future of LAX.”
This move is part of LAWA’s largest MATOC, a $5bn investment designed to facilitate the selection of contractors for various projects without the need for repeated qualification solicitations or approvals.
The MATOC enables a consistent flow of work over the contract’s lifespan for pre-qualified contractors. Contractors can bid on tasks aligning with their expertise.
The DB&Cservices MATOC will support LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program and other initiatives, with 20 projects slated to begin this year.
The five-year contract includes the possibility of two one-year extensions at LAWA’s discretion.
