AXA IM Alts, an alternative investment company, has submitted plans to build a new biodiverse office building at 63 St Mary Axe in London, UK.
The proposed 46-storey building will have approximately 635,000ft² of space and will feature a new park and multifunctional ground-level auditorium, among other public amenities.
AXA IM Alts said that the office building is the fifth office project it has undertaken in the city since 2012.
The new 176m-tall building, designed by domestic company Fletcher Priest Architects, will have access to gardens with more than 100 new trees from every office floor.
In preparation for this development, AXA IM Alts said it engaged with more than 350 local community groups and stakeholders to gain insights into their needs and aspirations.
These discussions aided the company in designing the public spaces within the building, including the creation of Camomile Park, which will reveal a previously concealed section of the city’s ancient Roman London Wall.
Camomile Park will connect the site’s ground level to a series of landscaped walkways and balconies equivalent to six storeys in height while following the original path of the London Wall.
The building will also feature food and beverage outlets, with spaces allocated for social enterprises to offer training to adults seeking careers in the food and hospitality sectors.
The company stated that the building, which will be fully electric and fossil-fuel free, is designed to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Outstanding, National Australian Built Environment Rating System 5 Star, and net-zero operational carbon ratings.
