Public works authority Ashghal and Urbacon Trading and Contracting have signed a contract for the second package of the Qatar Schools Development Programme under a public-private partnership (PPP) system.
This contract is for the construction of 14 schools and will be delivered in collaboration with the Qatar Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
This development aligns with the Third National Development Strategy 2030-2024 and the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Ashghal has already completed the first package of eight schools through a PPP.
The second package comprises five primary schools, four preparatory schools, three secondary schools, and two science and technology schools across various locations, designed to accommodate a total of more than 10,000 students.
Buildings Projects Department manager Jaralla Mohammed Al Marri said: “For the first time in Qatar, the project will be implemented using modern construction methods including 3D printing technology and modular building using prefabricated structures.”

By GlobalDataAshghal PPP Committee chair Mohammed Masoud Al Marri noted that the executing company will be designing, building schools, and performing maintenance for 25 years.
The company is also expected to provide safety and maintenance work.
Project engineer Khalid Al Najjar said: “The new schools are set to include 30 classrooms including classrooms for students with special needs accommodating about 786 students according to approved designs, various educational facilities such as laboratories for sciences, languages, and IT, in addition to sports, art and multipurpose halls, libraries, classrooms, outdoor spaces which include shaded car parking, sports stadiums, and service facilities.
“The new schools will undergo modifications in the external and internal designs, which includes changing the colours of flooring and internal walls to suit the age of students, thus enhancing the learning and psychological environment, and positively impacting learning outcomes.”
The new schools are expected to be completed in 2025, with operations anticipated to commence in the academic year 2025-2026.
Safety and accessibility have been prioritised in the design of the new schools.
The project is intended to comply with the global fire, security, and safety code and civil requirements.
In addition, the Qatari code for building for people with special needs will be adhered to, ensuring suitable entrances, restroom designs, and other necessary facilities.
