RED Construction Group has been awarded a contract to undertake the £13m ($16.56m) mixed-use redevelopment of Alumno Group’s Hollis Wharf in Bath, England, UK.

The project involves the transformation of the former Jubilee Centre into purpose-built student accommodation and commercial space, spanning 45,000ft² across five storeys.

Designed by AWW Architects, the development is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.

Alumno founder and managing director David Campbell said: “Following the works carried out by a previous contractor, it was crucial and imperative that we partnered with a team who had a strong track record and reputation for delivery in the region. Who could also mitigate the project’s challenges, as well as hit the ground running to drive the scheme forward within the timeframes required.

“We are pleased to have found that certainty and confidence within RED Construction Group’s South West team and appreciate their dedication to getting things turned round and on track.”

RED South West, a division of RED Construction Group, will oversee the construction of 120 student apartments and a new commercial unit for Mercy in Action, a local charity.

The accommodation will feature cluster flats and studios, with amenities such as a laundry room and accessible flats.

Additional communal spaces include a living room on the first floor and an external roof terrace on the fourth floor, offering views of the River Avon.

Located within a World Heritage Site and Enterprise Area adjacent to Twerton Viaduct and Rackfield Place, the Hollis Wharf development prioritises sustainability.

These include photovoltaic panels on the site’s roof, electric heating, green roofs, a living wall, and bird and bat boxes.

RED Construction South West executive director Derek Quinn said: “The trust that Alumno has put in RED South West to complete work on the Hollis Wharf is testament to our reputation within the region, and we are proud to be a part of what is set to be an amazing riverside location for the students of Bath.”

Last month, RED Construction was appointed for an office development project in Westminster, UK, with a gross development value of £200m ($255.12m).
