Infrastructure company AECOM, in a joint venture (JV), has been selected by the Civil Engineering and Development Department of the HKSAR Government for the design and construction of Package 3 of the New Territories North – San Tin / Lok Ma Chau Development Node in Hong Kong.

This initiative is stated to be a cornerstone for the Northern Metropolis, a wider development aimed at supporting around 2.5 million people and fostering economic growth, innovation, and sustainable urban development.

The San Tin Lok Ma Chau development, set for completion in 2038, spans approximately 190 hectares (ha) and will bolster the domestic innovation and technology sector, as well as provide residential, community, and commercial spaces.

AECOM, partnering with engineering services company AtkinsRéalis via a JV, will deliver a suite of services such as design, tender, and construction supervision, as well as environmental monitoring and mitigation.

AECOM’s approach to this project prioritises land use optimisation, harmonising modern development with natural and cultural conservation.

In line with the HKSAR Government’s Smart City strategy, AECOM will spearhead the creation and implementation of a unified digital twin platform for the entire San Tin Technopole project.

This platform aims to facilitate efficient planning and delivery while aligning with government initiatives such as the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure and Integrated Capital Works Platform.

Building on the momentum of Package 1, AECOM’s involvement extends to the design and project supervision of a 250ha segment of San Tin.

Furthermore, the company has been tasked with the Investigation Study for the Sam Po Shue Wetland Conservation Park, which will be the first of its kind in Hong Kong, under the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy.

Recently, AECOM was selected as the lead designer for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project’s second phase by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in the US.
