Infrastructure consulting firm AECOM has been awarded a project management contract for the design of Whipps Cross Hospital in northeast London, UK.
The Whipps Cross Hospital redevelopment scheme, which involves the addition of a new hospital and a residential-led, mixed-use development to the existing site, is estimated to cost £700m, reported Construction Enquirer.
Under the contract, Aecom will support Barts Health NHS Trust for the development of the outline business case for the scheme.
Aecom is also expected to take the project to the full business case and through planning and construction completion.
Aecom UK & Ireland healthcare and science sector leader Richard Mann said: “Leading the team developing the design for the new Whipps Cross Hospital gives us the opportunity to lay the foundations for a robust and sustainable scheme, which will not only benefit people in terms of better healthcare facilities, but takes a holistic approach to delivering wider benefits to the community such as new housing and infrastructure.”
The Whipps Cross Hospital redevelopment project is one of six hospitals to benefit from five-year, £2.7bn funding as part of the government’s Health Infrastructure Programme, which was announced last year.
