Social housing organisation AAB has appointed MT Højgaard Danmark as the general contractor for the refurbishment of its department site at Stærevej in Copenhagen’s North West Block, Denmark.

MT Højgaard Danmark is a business unit of MT Højgaard Holding, which also includes MT Højgaard Property Development and Enemærke & Petersen.

This project involves four eight-storey high-rises, five four-storey blocks, a workshop, and a communal laundry.

The refurbishment is valued at approximately DKr300m ($44.56m), including VAT.

Supported by the National Building Fund, the work is scheduled to start in early 2025 and is expected to span around three years.

Planned upgrades include combining existing housing units, adding balconies, constructing a common house, building new playgrounds, and improving traffic connections and safety.

MT Højgaard Danmark CEO Carsten Lund said: “Alongside construction and civil works, refurbishment projects are a crucial focus point for us, and it is important to deliver high quality across all projects.

“Our team on Stærevej will do their utmost to deliver a great refurbishment job and maintain a very high level of communication with the residents and the developer.”

MT Højgaard Danmark’s list of projects across the country includes Baggage Factory West, Bindesbøll Byen, Bellisbakken, Ny Iceland’s Brygge School, and Danalia, among others.

Earlier in May this year, MT Højgaard Danmark, in collaboration with France-based Eiffage Group, was selected to construct the Valby cloudburst tunnel in Denmark.

This project is being developed by HOFOR and local utility company Frederiksberg Forsyning.
