South Korea-based Shinsegae has commenced construction on the Kimhae Centre in the South Gyeongsang province.
Designed by Los Angeles-based architecture and urban design firm The Jerde Partnership, the new 145,000m² centre integrates outdoor culture and community spaces with five levels of retail and entertainment, along with transportation facilities.
Kimhae Centre mixed-used project combines three major project components, including an on-site bus terminal, intimate seven-screen cinema and an adjacent E-Mart discount anchor.
The bus terminal has completed construction and pilings for the commercial centre started recently.
An outdoor public park, entry plaza at street level and a rooftop sky park garden will be part of the signature community spaces of the centre.
The retail centre’s architecture has been designed to provide distinct visibility along the main Kimhae-daero highway and parallel metro line.

By GlobalDataOn the opposite side along JEONHA-ro, the project’s main entry has been highlighted by a new community park.
The park has been designed with a minimalist aesthetic, including horizontal banding and patterned concrete, and floating elements with lighting, outdoor seating and geometric landscape.
The park comprises a sunken cultural event space that houses a public amphitheatre, performance area and serene water features.
The sky park garden on the centre’s roof level offers panoramic views to the scenic city, mountains and waterways.
