Manchester City Football Club in the UK has selected Laing O’Rourke as the construction partner for the expansion of the Etihad Stadium.
The project will enable the football club to increase its stadium capacity from 48,000 to 54,000 people and to expand the facilities.
Phase one of construction will see the south stand expanded by around 6,000 seats while development of the north stand during the second and later phases of construction will take the stadium to a capacity of 60,000.
US-based architectural firm Populous has worked with the football club from the initial feasibility stages of the project.
The architectural firm will now oversee the construction phase of the project with Laing O’Rourke.
Manchester City FC chief commercial officer Tom Glick said the expansion of the stadium is a significant moment for city.

Etihad Stadium currently has a capacity to accommodate about 47,500 spectators, including 2,500 hospitality seats.
The stadium was developed as part of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the club moved into the facility in 2003.
In 2008, the stadium started several development projects such as City Square Fan Zone, the City Home Offices and the City Football Academy.
In mid 2011, the stadium and the site surrounding the ground were named as the Etihad Campus.
