The global construction industry noticed a 16.5% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by CDM Smith’s 14.92% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 11.97% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.94% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.1% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 10.55% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 27.79% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 35.29% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in November 2022, a 33.7% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 28.95% in November 2022, down 60.81% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.75% share in November 2022, a growth of 25.44% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.97% share in November 2022 and a drop of 40.22% over October 2022.
Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 44.58% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
CDM Smith posted 756 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a drop of 47.21% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 253 jobs and a 67.01% decline. Honeywell International with 230 IT jobs and General Electric with 220 jobs, recorded a 0.88% growth and a 0.92% rise, respectively, while Komatsu recorded a 42.74% drop with 217 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 55.12% share, which marked a 48.9% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 22.26%, registering a 44.46% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 20.27% share and a 16.03% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.24% and a month-on-month drop of 25.88%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.11%, registering a 19.15% increase over the previous month.
