Canada’s construction industry registered a 7.9% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.46% in July 2022 when compared with June 2022.
Out of the construction industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.58% share in July 2022, recording a decrease of 0.35% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 94.6% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s construction industry in July 2022.

Top five construction companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 18.35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s construction industry during July 2022 over June 2022.
Komatsu posted 91 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 40.91% over the previous month, followed by PCL Constructors with 86 jobs and an 8.51% drop. Hatch with 17 IT jobs and Johnson Controls International with 14 jobs, recorded a 6.25% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Rockwell Automation recorded an increase of 233.33% with 10 job postings during July 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.94%, down by 14.06% from June 2022. Mid Level positions with an 18.41% share, registered a decline of 13.43% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.02% share, down 26.79% over June 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.63%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
