HMW starts Phase II construction of $2.5bn development The Wharf
Hoffman-Madison Waterfront (HMW) started construction works on the second phase of the $2.5bn mixed-use waterfront neighbourhood ‘The Wharf’ in Washington, DC, US.
Phase II of The Wharf will complete the remaining 1.25 million square feet of new mixed-use development and include 625,000ft² of Trophy Office Space, 255 apartment residences, 131 hotel rooms, 96 condominium homes, 109,000ft² of ground-level retail shops and restaurants.
PN Hoffman and Madison Marquette, in collaboration with ER Bacon Development, City Partners, Paramount Development, and Triden Development, are leading the development of The Wharf.
McLaren to construct training centre for Leicester City Football Club
McLaren Construction announced plans to build a new $105m training facility for Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) at the former Park Hill Golf and Fishing Centre at Charnwood, UK.
Serving as principal contractor, McLaren will be responsible for the main building structure that moulds into the landscape.
The facility’s surroundings will include 11 full-size outdoor pitches, eight smaller pitches, five training grids and two goalkeeping areas.

Balfour Beatty won a £102m contract to transform the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, UK.
The project will involve the construction of the initial phase of the East Wick and Sweetwater development on behalf of East Wick and Sweetwater Projects Phase 1.
Upon completion, the newly created East Wick and Sweetwater neighbourhoods are set to contribute to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park regeneration. The development will also provide 1,500 new homes for the community.
DS+R and Rockwell open new multi-use arts venue in US
Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) and Rockwell Group opened the new multi-use arts venue known as ‘The Shed’ at Hudson Yards in New York, US.
Also known as the Bloomberg Building, The Shed commissions, develops and presents original works of art across all disciplines.
The 18,500m² structure The Shed’s primary programme spaces include two floors of expansive galleries, the 500-seat Griffin Theater, and the multiuse hall McCourt for large-scale performances, installations, and events with capacity for 1,250 to more than 2,000 standing.
University of Bristol reveals Temple Meads campus plan
The University of Bristol revealed plans for three high-rise student accommodation blocks that are part of its £300m Temple Quarter Campus.
The university held several events and exhibitions, as well as an online survey, until 1 May.
This will help the university collect feedback on the development of a new seven-acre campus that is located to the east of Bristol Temple Meads station.
Foster + Partners unveils design for House of Wisdom in Sharjah
Foster + Partners unveiled a new design for the new library and cultural centre called the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, UAE, alongside a new piece of public art by UK sculptor Gerry Judah known as The Scroll.
The design release for the House of Wisdom coincides with Sharjah being named as this year’s UNESCO World Book Capital.
Both the cultural centre and The Scroll are being developed by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq).
