A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11958792B2) discloses a novel urea production process conducted within a specialized urea production plant. The plant includes a high-pressure (HP) synthesis section and two medium-pressure (MP) recovery sections. The process involves separating a reaction mixture from the HP reaction zone into two streams, both containing urea. One stream, rich in ammonia, is directed to a thermal stripper to obtain stripped urea solution, while the other stream is sent to the second MP recovery section. The innovative design of the plant allows for efficient separation and recovery of urea components based on their gravimetric density and ammonia concentration.

Furthermore, the patented process includes degassing the second stream to determine its N/C ratio before bypassing the thermal stripper and entering the second MP recovery section. The first MP recovery section decomposes the stripped urea solution to produce a urea solution and a gas stream, which are further processed to separate carbamate and ammonia components. The HP reaction zone operates at high pressure, with a specific N/C ratio range, ensuring optimal urea production efficiency. The HP thermal stripper is equipped with bimetallic tubes for enhanced performance. These unique features of the patented urea production process aim to streamline production, improve yield, and enhance overall operational efficiency in urea manufacturing plants.
