AF Gruppen company Åsane Byggmesterforretning has been selected as the general contractor to construct the Haugland Housing Community in Norway.

Commissioned by Bergen Municipality, the contract is valued at approximately Nkr125m ($11.96m), excluding VAT.

The project will see the creation of two housing communities, named ‘tun 1’ and ‘tun 2,’ each featuring six residential units and a service base.

These will cater to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Tun 1 will incorporate both a new structure and the refurbishment of a school building dating back to 1952.

Meanwhile, Tun 2 will be an entirely new construction.

These communities will be constructed to meet environmental standards.

In addition, the project includes the preservation and rehabilitation of an existing gym, transforming it into a community centre. It is currently used for local recreation.

Furthermore, the development will introduce a new public playground.

These will all fall under the same contract as the housing development project, collectively named Haugland Housing Community.

Åsane Byggmesterforretning managing director Frank Ståløy said: “We are proud to have been selected to execute the Haugland Housing Community project. The stringent environmental requirements set by the client, along with the project’s architecture and site conditions, make it professionally very interesting.

“We look forward to starting the project and developing an area with socially beneficial buildings, in close collaboration with Bergen Municipality.”

Construction is expected to commence in late-2024, with the construction period spanning 24 months.

This comes after AF Gruppen‘s subsidiary HMB secured a turnkey contract to construct 87 apartments in the Stockholm district of Nockebyhov/Bromma in Sweden last month.
