STRABAG, an Austria-based technology company for construction services, has acquired Naporo Klima Dämmstoff from Synthesa Group.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
This move will enhance STRABAG’s product offerings to include eco-friendly insulation boards made from hemp, flax, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibres.
These are said to have a low ecological impact and carbon dioxide-binding properties.
This acquisition by STRABAG is set to be a step in its ambition to capitalise on the growing market for sustainable building materials.
Furthermore, it aligns with STRABAG’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040.

By GlobalDataSTRABAG CEO Klemens Haselsteiner said: “To become climate neutral across the group, we must include all aspects of our construction activities. Sustainable innovations in the field of building materials offer excellent opportunities that must be exploited.
“We will use our skills to further expand the production of climate-friendly insulation and establish this as an independent business segment. We are delighted to have acquired Naporo and welcome its employees to our company.”
Naporo, a hemp insulation provider, had been under Synthesa Group, an Austrian company specialising in building paints and thermal insulation systems, since 2014.
Since 2015, the production of hemp fibre insulation boards for the Capatect hemp insulation system has been underway in Haugsdorf, Lower Austria.
These versatile boards are effective for insulation, as well as serve as acoustic panels and noise absorbers, and are suitable for green roofing projects.
Furthermore, the hemp insulation boards are certified with the Austrian Ecolabel.
Synthesa managing director Georg Blümel said: “The acquisition will enable Naporo to explore applications beyond our core business, for example as noise barriers or for green roofs.
“In STRABAG, we have found a partner who will continue to write Naporo’s success story in the future. We look forward to additional growth prospects for the company and its employees, who we would like to thank for their enormous commitment and trust.”
Synthesa Group will maintain a close partnership with STRABAG to continue providing sustainable facade insulation solutions derived from hemp.
During this month, STRABAG and EQUANS won the bidding process for the renovation of the building accommodating central and regional offices of the Austrian Pension Fund and the Centre for Outpatient Rehabilitation in Vienna.
