Nordic community builder Peab has received a contract to construct a new assisted-living development in Åmål, Sweden.
Åmål Municipality awarded the Skr220m ($21.07m) contract.
Åmål Municipality community building head and project manager Björn Wennerström said: “There is a great need for assisted living in the municipality and we’re pleased and proud to finally get started on this fantastic project.”
The project involves the construction of 50 apartments designed to accommodate individuals with special needs.
These residents will live on the ground floor for easy access to the outdoors.
Each section will have its own courtyard, tailored to the preferences of its residents.

By GlobalDataThe development will span a gross area of 5,600m² and incorporate a production kitchen featuring reserve power and water systems.
To mitigate its climate impact, Åmål Municipality has opted for the use of climate-improved concrete while large parts of the bearing frame will feature cross-laminated timber.
Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: “We’re very happy to be entrusted with building this assisted living in Åmål. The project has a significant climate focus and Peab has sustainable solutions that fit in perfectly with the project. We look forward to getting started.”
Construction is scheduled to commence this month to complete the project in time for occupancy by the first quarter (Q1) of 2026.
The project will be recorded in Peab’s order books for Q1 2024.
This month, Peab also secured a €19m contract to construct a pilot platform facility for clean energy in Espoo, Finland.
The contract, commissioned by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, entails the construction of a two-storey addition to the VTT Bioruukki pilot centre and the upgrading of the existing building.
