Brush Park Development Company (BPDC) has selected a consortium of architecture firms for the Brush Park residential neighbourhood development within the city of Detroit in Michigan, US.

BPDC was selected as the developer of the project, which will span across an area of 8.4 acres.

The consortium will design 400 contemporary residential units under the project, which will include townhomes, duplexes, carriage homes and apartments.

Renovation works for four historic mansions will also be included in the project.

"The firms were chosen for their innovative work in urban neighbourhoods across the country. Each has thoughtfully designed contemporary architecture within historic contexts."

Hamilton Anderson Associates (HAA), Christian Hurttienne Architects, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects (LOHA), Merge Architects and Studio Dwell are the five companies selected by the developer.

While HAA will be responsible for the master planning, landscape architecture, apartments, townhomes, Christian Hurttienne Architects has been appointed for the historic preservation / renovation and adaptive reuse of the four historic mansions.

Merge Architects has been selected for developing the carriage homes and duplexes under the project.

LOHA and Studio Dwell have been picked for the four apartment buildings and the townhomes, respectively.

BPDC partner Samuel Thomas Jr. said: "The firms were chosen for their innovative work in urban neighbourhoods across the country.

The project has been planned to include ‘diversity of housing types, architectural aesthetics, historic preservation strategies and unit costs’, BPDC said.

Besides residential buildings, the neighbourhood project will involve constructions for pedestrian mews, a string of parks, neighbourhood retail, alleys as sustainable infrastructure, green roofs and shared transportation systems.
