Skanska has secured a contract to construct a new Marine Operations Center on Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island, US.
Awarded by the US Navy, on behalf of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the contract is valued at $147m.
The project, located in Newport, encompasses the construction of a pier designed to accommodate four large vessels, complete with necessary utilities.
Additionally, a 22,129ft² administration building will be erected, featuring parking facilities, exterior storage, and a nearby loading and laydown area.
The new facility is expected to serve as the headquarters for the NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations in the Atlantic region.
Construction work commenced last month with completion of the project anticipated in July 2027.

In a separate development, Skanska secured an additional Nkr460m ($45.41m) for phase two of E10/rv 85 Tjeldsund – Gullesfjordbotn – Langvassbukt in Northern Norway.
This work is within the existing contract with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
It includes the construction of around 82km of new road, featuring seven tunnels and 22 bridges.
It is expected to focus on the existing E10 road from Kåringskrysset to Fiskefjorden, covering approximately 16km.
This includes constructing new bridges and optimising the road curvature to enhance overall standards.
Construction is expected to commence in mid-2024, with completion of the stretch anticipated in Q4 2029.
The company previously won a contract worth NKr11.4bn to design and construct the E10/rv 85 road In June last year.
