Bird Construction has secured a construction management contract to build a 13-storey modular tower in the province of British Columbia (BC), Canada.

The Stack Modular business of Bird Construction will deliver the project, which is Bird’s second multistorey modular construction project.

This modular project on West 8th Avenue in Vancouver is part of a permanent supportive housing initiative (PSHI) formed between BC Housing, the City of Vancouver, and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

The PSHI intends to build approximately 300 housing units on five city-owned sites to address the community’s rising need for supportive housing.

The volumetric modular construction design solution enables replication and standardisation across all residential floors, cost-effectiveness, logistical ease, and faster completion for the programme.

Besides this modular project, Bird has secured four other contracts. The estimated total value of these five contracts is more than C$530m ($262.44m).

These construction contracts include a manufacturing facility, the Kakabeka Falls Generating Station Life Extension Project, as well as two contracts for large energy clients.

The Kakabeka Falls Generating Station Life Extension Project intends to increase the station’s longevity and efficiency, which is located on the Kaministiquia River near Thunder Bay.

The scope of Bird’s works includes the design and installation of two new hydro generation units for replacing the four existing generators in addition to developing a new surge building and penstocks and restoring the current powerhouse.

Separately, Bird was granted a new project in the Wood Buffalo region of Alberta, Canada, along with an additional significant change order within a current project with two long-term clients.
