Hynion has broken ground on its new hydrogen refuelling station at the STOP128 truckstop, adjacent to the E18 road network in Västerås, Sweden.

It is one of the two high-capacity hydrogen stations that the company is building in Västerås and Jönkøping.

The development follows the receipt of a building permit for construction in late August this year. The approval was granted by the building committee in Västerås.

Hynion Sverige product manager and Västerås/Jönköping stations project manager Torgny Eriksson said: “Now, we start with the real construction project, where Premac is responsible for the groundworks and many other parts of the project, before the advanced technical equipment for the station is coming into place.”

Construction is expected to be finished within the first half (H1) of 2024.

The completion may experience some delay due to setbacks in the delivery of crucial subsystems to the stations, the company noted.

In July 2022, Hynion was granted Skr61.4m from the Swedish Energy Authorities for two high-capacity hydrogen stations with a capacity of 1,500kg of hydrogen per day.

The second station will be situated in the Torsvik logistics area next to the E4 road network, south of Jönkøping.

Last year, PDC Machines was chosen by Hynion to supply compressors for its new hydrogen filling stations that will service both light and heavy-duty vehicles.

Västerås municipal board chair Staffan Jansson said: “That Västerås will be the first place in Sweden to get a full-scale hydrogen refuelling station is very exciting.

“Now it is up to companies and organisations to start the work of replacing fossil-powered vehicles with hydrogen-powered ones, so we can speed up the work of saving the climate.”
