Morgan Sindall Construction has commenced the enabling and construction work on a new housing project in Somers Town, UK.

For this £17.25m ($21.67m) project, the PAGABO framework appointed the construction company on behalf of Camden Council.

The project involves the construction of two buildings that will have a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units for social rent.

The plan is to build 20 houses in one block and 14 in the other, which will also include a new community centre.

The new blocks will replace the ageing TRA Hall building with homes featuring on-site amenities.

The site will be heated via a district heating system, providing residents with efficient and sustainable heating.

Construction work is expected to be finished late next year.

Morgan Sindall London area director Richard Dobson said: “As the need for affordable housing and functional community spaces increase, regeneration schemes such as this are becoming more and more urgent.

“The Central Somers Town project will become a real asset to the community, breathing new life into the area and providing high-end homes in the heart of Camden.”

The preconstruction services agreement was established quickly, and the design, surveys, and enabling works for the development were concluded in four months.

The council received financing from the Greater London Authority for this project.

Camden Council New Homes, Jobs, and Community Investment cabinet member and councillor Danny Beales said: “These new homes in Central Somers Town are another fantastic example of our ambitious approach – here we are working together with the local community and our construction partner to ambitiously deliver new homes for local residents by 2025.”
