Swedish construction engineering company Nordisk Bergteknik has won a contract for the West Link, a major transport infrastructure project in Gothenburg, West Sweden.
The contract was signed by Nordisk Bergteknik via group Bohus Bergsprängning, which has expertise in excavating rock both above and below ground.
It covers the construction of the West Link phase that extends from Korsvägen to Almedal in Gothenburg.
Construction on this stage of the development has already begun and will continue until the amusement park Liseberg reopens early next year.
According to Bergteknik, work in the tunnel is said to be highly complex as the phase that is being carried out under the Liseberg amusement park must follow specific requirements.
Work on the West Link beneath Liseberg is expected to conclude in April next year.

“Finally, we have recently received a significant contract with Kaunis Iron in Pajala, which is a new customer for us.”
Bergteknik’s turnover from this project is expected to be Skr50m.
The West Link is a new 8km-long double-track railway line, of which 6km will be built in a tunnel underneath Gothenburg. It also includes three new underground stations at Haga, Korsvägen, and Gothenburg Central Station.
Construction of the West Link project is being carried out via a total of six main contracts.
Once complete, the project will help relieve traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and enable easier access to more destinations.
