Williamsburg City Council has entered a comprehensive agreement with general contractor Henderson to construct a new police station next to the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street in Williamsburg, Virginia, US.

Under this agreement, the city’s officials have committed to offering the contractor a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $19.2m for the design and construction of this new station.

The GMP comprises the first of three parts of the umbrella projects. This phase includes the conclusion of the station’s basement, the development of a third-floor shell, further design work for the new Public Works Yard, and a separate third-floor entrance.

The next two phases of the umbrella project will include the partial relocation, expansion, and remodelling of the Public Works yard and shops, along with the construction of the third floor of the police station to accommodate more office space.

Williamsburg City Council will be presented with separate contracts for the final two components in future.

Virginia-based architect Moseley Architects is part of the Henderson design-build team for this project.

The 43,400ft² police station is expected to be completed in late 2025.

The Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) was used to request bids for the design and construction of the facility.

This PPEA process enabled the council to select its preferred design and construction options.

Bid solicitation began in June last year and resulted in two bids. During its regular meeting in November later that year, the council selected Henderson for this project.
