Walsin Energy Cable System has held a ground-breaking event to mark the start of construction on its new Kaohsiung submarine cable facility in Taiwan.
The company is a joint venture formed between Taiwan-based copper conductors and wire manufacturers Walsin Lihwa and NKT HV Cables, a subsidiary of Denmark-listed submarine cable solutions business NKT Group.
The project is claimed to be the first submarine cable plant in Taiwan.
The collaboration provides Walsin Lihwa with superior submarine cable technologies for use in product development and manufacturing.
Walsin Lihwa chair Yu-Lon Chiao said: “Local production ensures a steady supply of submarine cables, a critical component for the development of offshore wind power generation industry, and of strategic importance to Taiwan’s grid resilience.
“We are delighted to work with NKT. Our collaboration marks a significant milestone in the development of Walsin Lihwa’s power cable business.
