The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has awarded a contract valued at AED619m ($168m) to HLG Contracting for the construction of the EXPO Village Parcels 10 and 11 residential towers.

DWTC is developing and managing the project.

Under the terms of the contract, HLG will construct five 16-storey towers as part of the preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai.

Three of the towers to be built will be co-joined through a mutual three-storey podium and the other two towers through a shared three-storey podium.

Construction is set to start this month and there are plans to complete the building by June 2019 for Expo 2020 Dubai, which opens in October 2020.

Introduced in 1979, DWTC is a purpose-built complex for events and exhibitions and is spread over an area occupying 1.3 million square feet of covered exhibition and event space. This consists of 21 halls and more than 40 meeting rooms across three floors.

In January, HLG secured a AED401m ($109m) contract from development company Hasabi Real Estate for the construction of Al Garhoud Towers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
