The Swedish Transport Administration (STA) has entered 22 agreements with the construction company NCC for paving works in northern Sweden.
The 22 projects, which include a range of pavement works, have an overall estimated value of around Skr540m ($49.8m).

The company will be responsible for laying of 360,000t of asphalt in Norrbotten and Västerbotten between Gävle and Kiruna.
Due to STA’s rigorous environmental regulations, some projects have to indicate the environmental performance of the asphalt in an environmental product declaration (EPD).
An environmental product declaration (EPD) associated with a specific asphalt plant claims to allow the consumer to calculate the environmental and climate impact precisely. NCC holds approximately 85% of its asphalt facilities in Sweden.
NCC industry head Grete Aspelund said: “It is highly positive that the Swedish Transport Administration has maintained its focus on environmental aspects when procuring asphalting contracts.

Asphalt mixes are manufactured in asphalt factories near the sites. Many projects leverage mobile asphalt plants to supplement the local plants required to work across broad regions in northern Sweden.
The contract will be entered on an ongoing basis into the order bookings of the NCC industry business segment during 2023 and 2024.
