Richard Meier and Partners concludes Rothschild Tower project in Israel
Richard Meier and Partners completed the Bauhaus-inspired Rothschild Tower project in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The new residential tower rises 154m above Rothschild Boulevard in the centre of the UNESCO-protected White City.
Its lightness and transparency is the result of a façade that consists of clear glass with a white louvre screen.
Dubai unveils $136m Mars Science City project
The Government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched the new AED500m ($136m) Mars Science City project, which is set to provide a realistic model to simulate living on the surface of Mars.
The new project will cover an area of 1.9ft² and include laboratories for carrying out testing and studies on food, energy, water, and agriculture.
To be equipped with various domes, the city will be built as part of UAE’s Mars 2117 Strategy, which aims to build the first settlement on Mars in the next 100 years.

UK-based property development company British Land has received approval from the planning committee for a £300m extension of Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, UK.
The extension will feature a 330,000ft² Leisure Hall for the centre’s 24 million annual visitors.
Planned to be integrated with the front of the Meadowhall centre, the extension will see new dining, cinema, café, gym, open-air terrace, leisure space, and event and entertainment options.

Moda Living, a developer and operator of private rented homes, submitted a planning application to Birmingham City Council for a £183m residential scheme.
Once the scheme is completed, it will be the tallest residential tower in Birmingham, according to Construction Enquirer.
The project includes plans for the 2one2 Broad Street tower, which was designed by architect Glenn Howell and will have 481 apartments.

LMN Architects has opened the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) in the US state of Washington.
Spread over an area of 46,013ft², the PAEC was built at a cost of $32.7m to cater to both public and private needs.
The multi-functional centre houses a multi-purpose performing arts theatre that has a regional conference centre and enough space to accommodate 716 people.
Bloomberg Center opens at Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in US
Global design and consulting firm Arup has announced the opening of The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Center at the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in New York, US.
Designed by Arup and Morphosis Architects, the 150,000ft² building features various spaces that have been designed to support different learning modes.
The key component of The Bloomberg Center is the art-in-architecture programme with newly commissioned works throughout by artists Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Riedel, Matthew Ritchie, and Matthew Day Jackson.
UK's BAM to build new secondary school in Swindon
The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has appointed UK-based engineering company BAM Construction to build The Deanery Church of England Academy in Swindon.
The new three-storey secondary school project received planning permission in July and is set to join the Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust (DBAT).

Northern Ireland’s Translink has awarded the delivery partner contract to global design, engineering and management consulting company Arcadis to create a new integrated public transport hub in the heart of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Set to be located on the site of the Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street Train Station, the Belfast Hub will provide a gateway for the city and link it to national and international markets.
It is also expected to create new jobs and investment opportunities.
Balfour Beatty contracted to extend Amersham multi-storey car park in UK
The UK's Chiltern District Council has awarded a contract to Balfour Beatty for the extension of Amersham town centre’s multi-storey car park.
Under the £10m contract, which was procured through the Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework, the company will employ 50 people to build the new five-storey facility.
Equipped with a lift service, electric car charge points and extensive CCTV, the expansive facility will provide an additional 502 parking spaces for Amersham’s existing 680-space car park.
