By GlobalDataMicron and the Indian government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 28 June to develop the semiconductor facility. Micron plans to invest up to $825m towards it.
The entire expenditure on the development, including the Indian government’s involvement, will be $2.75bn.
The facility has received approval under the country’s Modified Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging programme.
The scheme provides the company with 50% financial support for the overall project cost, with 20% financial assistance from the Gujarat government.
Based on an earlier press release from Micron, construction of the new assembly and testing plant in Gujarat is expected in the later phases of this year.
The first phase, which will feature 500,000ft² of planned cleanroom space, will begin operations in late 2024.
The company also indicated that in the coming years, the facility will create up to 5,000 new direct jobs and 15,000 additional community jobs.
