DP World has signed an agreement with the government of Puntland, a notheastern state in Somalia, to expand and upgrade the Port of Bosaso.
The construction agreement was signed in Dubai by Puntland Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport Ahmed Yaasiin Saalah and DP World CEO and managing director for Middle East and Africa Suhail Albanna.
This 12-month project is scheduled to begin in early 2023.
DP World will develop a 150m quay, and repair the present 215m quay.
It will also develop a new 3,000m2 container yard, and a 4,000m2 container stripping yard, as well as upgrade the gate area to the port.
After completion, the port will be able to handle container vessels and attract more direct calls from feeder ships coming from Dubai and other regional destinations.
