Developer Ediston Real Estate has filed plan for a £150m redevelopment of Shawlands Arcade, a shopping mall, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The shopping mall was built in 1960.

The proposal submitted to the Glasgow City Council was brought forward by arcade’s owner, Clydebuilt, a property investment and development fund co-owned by Strathclyde Pension Fund and Ediston Real Estate.

It envisages transforming the site by creating many new homes and shops, reported Construction Enquirer.

Shawlands Arcade will have a combination of shops on the ground floor and 330 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments above, reported Glasgow Times.

The plan also features greenspace and public realm areas that include space for play, performance, and art.

The regeneration project is expected to support 240 direct jobs and another 150 jobs during the construction phase.

Following planning approval, work on the first phase will commence next year. Work on the second phase for a further 300 homes is expected to begin in 2026.

Ediston Real Estate director Neal Jamieson was quoted by GlassgowLive as saying: “We are pleased to submit plans for a viable alternative to the existing Arcade. Having consulted with the community over the past year, we know that replacement of the current dated complex is much wanted.”
